Saudi Arabia has announced a sweeping master plan for Dammam King Fahd International Airport, along with Al Ahsa International and Qaisumah International airports.
Eastern Province Governor Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz revealed that this effort aims to transform Dammam into a leading aviation and logistics gateway under Vision 2030.
Ambitious Targets for Dammam King Fahd International Airport

- The plan seeks to serve 19.3 million passengers annually by 2030, a figure expected to more than double the current throughput.
- Further down the road, capacity may stretch to 32 million passengers per year.
- Operational throughput will be expanded to 77 aircraft movements per hour.
- Cargo capacity gets a bold upgrade: the target is to exceed 600,000 tonnes annually, more than ten times today’s volume.
These improvements mark the largest expansion ever proposed for the Dammam airport complex.
The Twin Regional Airports: Al Ahsa and Qaisumah
While King Fahd International Airport gets the headlines, the plan also includes parallel master strategies for:
- Al Ahsa International Airport
- Qaisumah International Airport
These regional lifts aim to promote balanced development and relieve pressure on the main hub. The detailed passenger or cargo targets for these two are not yet fully public, but the upgrades are positioned to integrate them more tightly into the Eastern Province’s aviation network.
Infrastructure, Projects and Process Upgrades
SAR 1.6 Billion Development Package
To turn vision into reality, the authorities have launched 77 projects with a combined budget of SAR 1.6 billion (AED 1.57 billion).
Smart Passenger Processing
The plan includes the rollout of electronic gates to speed up passenger procedures and reduce bottlenecks.
General Aviation Upgrades
Infrastructure for business jets, private flights and supporting services will be elevated to global operational standards.
Logistics Hub Ambition
Dammam is being positioned as a regional logistics centre, linking cargo, routes and transit operations.
Strategic Rationale and Growth Drivers
Supporting Vision 2030
This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader plan to diversify its economy and elevate transport and logistics.
Growth in Demand
Passenger traffic at Damman King Fahd International Airport has grown strongly; by the end of 2024, traffic was up 35% compared to 2022.
Also, KFIA handled around 12 million passengers in 2024, marking a 15% year-on-year rise.
What the Plan Means for Brands and Airport Advertisers
More Footfall, More Exposure
With projected growth to 32 million passengers at KFIA and expansion across the region, the volume of airport footfall will attract better advertiser visibility.
Upgraded Facilities = Premium Ad Environments
New terminals, digital infrastructure, premium lounges, streamlined movement will yield more high-quality ad spaces (digital displays, gate areas, lounges).
Multi-Airport Network
Because this master plan spans King Fahd, Al Ahsa and Qaisumah, brands can leverage a networked approach across multiple touchpoints within the Eastern Province.
Position Your Brand in Saudi’s Expanding Aviation Network
This master plan represents a bold pivot for Saudi aviation infrastructure in the Eastern Province. If delivered well, it will strengthen Dammam’s role as a logistics hub and broaden opportunities for brands to reach high-value audiences in modern, premium airport environments.
